Twickenham Regatta hosted 175 crews for the 102nd edition of the race-day.
Originally founded as the Richmond and Twickenham Amateur Regatta in 1923, the event separated in 1952 when Richmond Regatta was founded as a Coronation event.
More than 420 competitors descended onto the riverside on May 24 to take part in the 850m course that starts at Glover’s Island and finishes adjacent to the Ham House car park.
For of Twickenham Rowing Club (pictured above) this presented itself as an opportunity to gain an understanding of where they shape up in comparison to other crews across the south ahead of the big summer regattas such as Met Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
The Senior Women’s head coach Jonny Searle insisted that for those competing at the regatta it’s more than just hopping into the boat right before racing.
Searle said: “There’s coming down, checking the boat over and making sure the oars are the right length, the riggers are the right height so you can clear the water as your rowing forwards.
“There’s a bit of mental preparation – there’s visualising the race, thinking how you’re going to start the race and how you’ll finish the race.”
Months of preparation proved itself worthy, with Twickenham Rowing Club ending the day with eleven wins across the different categories and divisions.
